Halloween Songs

Deck the Halls
(to the tune of Deck The Halls)

Deck the halls with poison ivy,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

'Tis the season to be slimy,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our strange apparel,

fa la la, la la la, la la la.

Troll the ancient Halloween carol,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the goblins rise before us,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

As we sing the Halloween chorus,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

Follow them as they ascend,

fa la la, la la la, la la la.

Join with all your loony friends,

fa la la la la, la la la la.

Trick or Treat
(to the tune of Jingle Bells)

Dashing through the streets,

Meeting goblins as we go,

Wearing contour sheets,

Wishing it would snow.

Bells in doorways ring,

Making spirits bright,

What fun it is to come and sing

And get some food tonight.

Trick or treat, trick or treat,

Trick or treat we say!

Try to get the treats before

The ghost takes us away!

Trick or treat, trick or treat,

Trick or treat we say!

If you don't have treats for us

We'll never go away!

We Three Ghosts
(to the tune of We Three Kings)

We three ghosts of Halloween are

Scaring kids who wander too far.

Trick or treating, candy eating,

Beware the Halloween Star.

Oh...oh...

Star of darkness, star of fright.

Star of every gruesome sight.

West winds howling, cats a-yowling,

Let us play some tricks tonight!

Spirit Wonderland
(to the tune of Winter Wonderland)

Screech owls hoot, are you listening?

'Neath the moon, all is glistening.

A real scary sight, we're happy tonight.

Waitin' in a spirit wonderland.

Black cats yowl, can you hear 'em?

Ghosties howl, don't you fear 'em.

A real scary sight, we're happy tonight.

Waitin' in a spirit wonderland.

In the streets, we're begging for some candy.

We've been waiting for this night all year.

We've tried to embarrass everybody,

And to make a costume filling you with fear.

Later on, while we're eatin'

What we got trick or treatin'.

We'll share all our sacks

Of Halloween snacks,

Waitin' in a spirit wonderland.

Ghosties We Have Heard on High

(to the tune of Angels We Have Heard on High)

Ghosties we have heard on high,

Groaning horribly o'er the plains.

And the witches in reply,

Cacklin' their own eerie strains:

Boooooooooooooooooooooo

Listen to our cry --

Boooooooooooooooooooooo

On this Halloween Night we cry.

Spirits why this jubilee?

Why your ghostly tunes prolong?

What these gruesome tidings be,

Which inspire your ghastly song?

Boooooooooooooooooooooo

Listen to our cry --

Boooooooooooooooooooooo

On this Halloween Night we cry.

Shivery Yells
(to the tune of Silver Bells)

We're on sidewalks, we're on porches,

Dressed in costumes to scare.

Through the city we're ringing the doorbells

Trick or treating, candy eating,

Gooey stuff in our hair

But the most fun is shrieking out loud:

Shivery yells, Shivery yells

That's the Halloween nitty-gritty

Moan and groan, leaves us alone

Halloween's just one night a year.

Pumpkin Bells
(to the tune of Jingle Bells)

Dashing through the streets in our costumes bright and gay

To each house we go laughing all the way

Halloween is here, making spirits bright

What fun it is to trick-or-treat

And sing pumpkin carols tonight!

Oh Pumpkin bells, Pumpkin bells

Ringing loud and clear

Oh what fun great pumpkin brings

When Halloween is here.

Deck The Patch
(to the tune of Deck The Halls)

Deck the patch with orange and black Fa la la la la, la la la la

Take along your goody sack Fa la la la la, la la la la

Don we now our weird apparel Fa la la la la, la la la la

Toll the ancient pumpkin carol Fa la la la la, la la la la

See the great one rise before us Fa la la la la, la la la la

As we sing the pumpkin chorus Fa la la la la, la la la la

Follow him as he ascends Fa la la la la, la la la la

Join with true great pumpkin friends. Fa la la la la, la la la la

I'm Dreaming Of The Great Pumpkin
(to the tune White Christmas)

I'm dreaming of the great pumpkin

Just like I do this time each year.

When he brings nice toys

To good girls and boys

Who wait for him to appear.

I'm dreaming of the great pumpkin

With every pumpkin card I write.

May your jack-o-lanterns burn bright

When the great pumpkin visits you tonight.

Five Little Pumpkins
Sitting On A Gate

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,

The first one said,

"Oh my, it's getting late."

The second one said,

"But we don't care."

The third on said,

"I see witches in the air."

The fourth one said,

"Let's run, and run, and run."

The fifth one said,

"Get ready for some fun."

Then whoosh went the wind,

and out went the lights,

And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

I am a pumkin, big and round
Once upon a time I grew in the ground, but
Now I have a mouth, two eyes and a nose
What are they for, do you suppose?

When I have a candle, inside shining bright
I'll be a jack-o-lantern on Halloween Night
Halloween Night!

Halloween

Halloween is here again
Fun for girls and boys.
Little pumpkins, ghosts and goblins
Dressed up all in fun.
Waiting for the time to come
To go out door to door.
Doing all their little tricks
And getting all their treats.
Then rushing home to see their loot
Eating until they're full.
Then they yawn with their sleepy heads
And off to bed they go........
For Halloween is gone once more.

The Pumpkin's Wish

"I want to be a pumpkin face,"
A pumpkin one day said.

"I'd hate to be a pumpkin pie
The heat would hurt my head."

"I'd rather sit upon a post,
And be a shining light;
I'd want a candle in my head,
Ere I went out at night."

"I'd keep a grin upon my face,
No matter what I did;
My mouth would stretch from ear to ear
I would scare most any kid."

"My eyes would shine like two bright stars,
They'd pierce a person through,
My teeth would be all jagged like,
I'd make a great ado."

"So make of me a pumpkin face
A grin from ear to ear,
A nose that I can breath aright,
And I need have no fear."

"You can punch my face wih forty holes,
And make me shiny eyes,
But do not gouge my insides out,
To make a pumpkin pie!!"

October

The month is amber,
Gold, and brown.
Blue ghosts of smoke
Float through the town.

Great V's of geese
Honk overhead,
And maples turn
a fiery red.

Frost bites the lawn,
The stars are slits
In a black cat's eye
Before she spits.

At last, small witches,
Goblins, hags,
And pirates armed
With paper bags.

Their costumes hinged
on safety pins,
Go haunt a night
Of pumpkin grins.

Halloween

Ghosts and goblins and witches too
walking along the streets
all laughing, joking and having fun
going out for their yearly tricks or treats

Dressed up in their costumes
oh what a sight
to look at some
gives you quite a fright

A princess, a pirate, superman,
and a little bumble bee too
one little tyke dressed up so cute
looking just like Winnie the Pooh

The houses lit up to receive their guests
pumpkins shining in the night
with the cut out faces
the candles make the pathway bright

The little ones braving the cold
dark night, walking along with
their bags in tow
Knocking on doors to see what they get
and watching their candy grow..

Moms and Dads walking along
to keep their little ones safe from harm
the long walk tires them out
and they end up in their daddies's arms

Halloween comes but once a year
but it is a night of fun
so get dressed up and get your treats
have a Safe and Happy Halloween everyone!

~Halloween~

Tonight is the night
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
Across the sky,
When elf and sprite
Flit through the night
On a moony sheen.

Tonight is the night
When leaves make a sound
Like a gnome in his home
Under the ground,
When spooks and trolls
Creep out of holes
Mossy and green.

Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves
Everywhere,
When ghouls and ghost
And goblins host
Dance round their queen.
It's halloween.

Halloween

It was a cold and windy night
When I heard a little cry
Coming from an alley way
And I had to see just why.

I saw a tiny kitten
As black as she could be
With just a little orange spot
So I named her Halloween.

I put her in my pocket
To try to keep her warm
I could tell that she'd been out there
Just weathering the storm.

I nursed her and I cared for her
And she grew up like a queen
She took the whole house over ...
Anything for Halloween.

She has her catnip toys around
And a bed of fancy lace
She has such pretty golden eyes
And a sweet look on her face.

She always sleeps right next to me
Yeah, we make quite a team
And now she owns the family ...
Anything for Halloween.

Now when witches fly upon their brooms
And ghosts come out and scream
As we hand out the treats, I say,
"Here's to Halloween!"

TRICK OR TREATING WITH THE ZODIAC

Aries pushes the others aside to get to the door first.

Taurus will only eat the finest of Swiss chocolates.

Gemini goes around the neighborhood once,
changes costumes and goes around again.

Cancer stays at home and gives candy to
the other trick-or-treaters.

Leo plans their costume for months, then
won't go out because someone
else had the same idea.

Virgo wears a neatly-pressed suit and tells
everyone they're a bookkeeper.

Libra is still standing in front of the closet
trying to decide on a costume.

Scorpio isn't in it for the candy.

Sagittarius will manage to wander
to the next town.

Capricorn makes a list of all the houses
that give good candy and the
optimal route to take.

Aquarius builds their costume out of spare
flashlights and spends all night
tinkering when it shorts.

Pisces skips the whole thing to compose
poetry to the Moon.

Gather on this special eve
Magic everywhere
Spirits roaming constantly
Their voices in the air

Faces of the little ones
You never know just who
Wrapped in so much splendor
Their costumes all brand new

Voices gaily laughing
Sounds heard everywhere
Hearts of joy are gathering
Happiness to share

Fall is in the air now
Leaves all crisp and down
Footsteps making music
Walking on the ground

Night is dark but glowing
Moon is very bright
Stars are in the heavens
Shining special lights

Spirits masquerading
Places now to roam
No one sees their faces
Today the earth their home.

Swarners, Not Stewarts
By Ken Swarner

October 1st begins the holiday season at the Swarner's - three months of decorating our rooms with cotton cobwebs, cardboard turkeys and plastic holly.

At the start of each month, we gather as a family around a big box of  decorations, and one by one, take each memory out and lovingly place them around our home.

As we pulled the first plastic spider from the box last weekend, we once again renewed our yearly tradition.

"Mom! Claire won't let me hang up the Happy Halloween banner!" my
son screamed.

Followed by: "Ow! Dad! Alasdair hit me with the rubber bat and I'm
bleeding on my shoe!"

Diverting the fight, I suggest: "Why don't you kids each take one of
these candy dishes and put them on the coffee tables downstairs."
"I get the Frankenstein one.
"No! I want that one!"
"You can have the pumpkin."
"That's not fair - the color is all faded - it looks like it rotted!"

Next, my wife, who loves the holidays and gets really excited about  decorating, returns to the box of decorations after stringing orange
lights down the banister. "Who put the Dracula candles on the TV?"
"I did," I answered. "Why?"
"I moved them."
"After you told me to put the candles anywhere?"
"Well, I didn't think you'd put them there."

Meanwhile, the children had each other by the hair and their other hands locked tightly on the Frankenstein candy dish.
"Give it!"
"No!"
"Where do you want me to put this?" my wife asked, ignoring them.

I look up to see she was holding the paper ghost on a string I gave her when we were first married. It was more gray than white and missing an eye. "The garbage."

"How about right there," she said pointing to the highest point in
the house.

"You want me to put a nail in the vaulted ceiling so we can have a
shredded ghost hanging on it for only four weeks out of the year?"

She nodded. "We'll put the paper pilgrim with the missing foot there
next month and then the mistletoe for Christmas."

"It's too high up, " I replied, "who'll know it's mistletoe. People
will think we are forcing them to kiss under the Christmas mold."

Just as she was about to reply, the Frankenstein candy dish, which was held taut between my children's hands, went airborne and splintered into a hundred pieces at the foot of the stairs - candy corn flying into corners we probably won't vacuum until Spring.

"You were right, dear," I said. "This is more fun than watching the
football game."

She couldn't speak.

Needless to say, I sent my wife to bed, farmed the kids out to the neighbors for the rest of the afternoon, and then decorated the house with the remaining Halloween crafts, which my wife rearranged the following day.

Funny, but I know I'll miss all of this when the kids grow up and move away.
